Dan Briody grew up in Ridgefield, CT, an out-of-the-way town on the border between New York and Connecticut. After graduating from Ridgefield High School, Briody attended Boston College in Chestnut Hill, MA. Earning degrees in both English and Philosophy, Briody packed his bags after graduation in 1993 and moved to San Francisco to begin his professional career.
In San Francisco, Briody tapped into the nascent Internet craze, working public relations for Apple Computer and Sun Microsystems in Silicon Valley. After attempting career suicide by moving to Hawaii in 1995, Briody returned to the Bay Area and took a job as a cub reporter at InfoWorld, the venerable technology trade journal in San Mateo. After rising through the ranks of the surging magazine’s editorial department, he left for New York in 1999 via Europe, Thailand, and Australia.
In 2000, Briody accepted a position at Red Herring magazine, then the size of the Yellow Pages, frothing thick with dotcom ads. After two years and countless rounds of layoffs, Briody left Red Herring in the summer of 2002 to pursue his new career as an author.
In April 2003, The Iron Triangle: Inside the Secret World of the Carlyle Group was published by John Wiley & Sons. The book was an immediate success, landing on several bestseller lists and generating widespread media attention. Briody appeared in dozens of television, radio, and newspaper spots covering the story of Carlyle.
In 2004, Briody put out his second book, The Halliburton Agenda, which outlines the long history of political back-scratching in one of the nations most connected companies.
Briody lives in Ridgefield, CT with his wife Michelle, son Sam, and daughter Evie. He is currently a freelance writer and consultant.
